Eight Boys Hope Girls Hope World Wide Technology Scholars from Arizona, Colorado, Detroit, and New York attended the annual Women of Color STEM Conference in Detroit recently.
It is a multicultural event recognizing the significant contributions of women in STEM. Held in Detroit on October 3-5th, the conference provided networking opportunities, professional development sessions, and seminars on topics such as advancements in AI, mental health in the workplace, and empowering women leaders.
On Friday morning, the the group met with honorees and team members from World Wide Technology to learn more about the company and its partnership with Boys Hope Girls Hope. In small group discussions, they explored the roles of WWT team members, gained advice on preparing for careers after college, and asked questions about topics that mattered to them.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
One attendee, Sophonie Blaise, a sophomore at NYU and graduate of the New York affiliate, connected with two WWT team members from the company’s London office. They made plans to meet again when Sophonie studies abroad in London next semester.
On Saturday, the scholars attended the Women of Color Technology Expo and Career Enhancement Lab, where they explored various companies and learned about summer internship opportunities for 2025. The expo offered valuable insights into the diverse roles within tech companies—not only in science and technology but also in areas like finance, marketing, and human resources. Thanks to numerous valuable networking opportunities and Friday’s conversations, multiple scholars expressed interest in applying for WWT’s 2025 award-winning internship program.
Throughout the weekend, the group shared meaningful conversations while building community and friendship and enjoying new experiences in Detroit. The weekend left Boys Hope Girls Hope World Wide Technology Scholars excited for the next opportunity to connect with industry leaders at the BEYA STEM Conference, scheduled for February 13-15, 2025, in Baltimore.
